Power's on at Yonge & College, but I've turned the lights off in solidarity. #darkTO
@ivortossell You have MY tripod. (PS - Can I have it back? Along with my video camera?)
As Bugs Bunny said: it's one of those days I shoulda stood in bed.
@phillipadsmith: Print: TOLife, Believer, Good, Wired, Harpers, Monocle, This (duh). Online: MotherJones, Utne, Nation, Wired, Harpers
Trait that I irrationally regard in myself as a personal moral failing: buying lunch instead of bringing it.
@shawnmicallef Mapping and Metaphor — I'll take "Edward Tufte" for $1000. http://bit.ly/284s

@remarkk I'd be interested in coming to #changecamp on behalf of @thismagazine. Can you advise?
Wrote a thousand words before 9 am. Damn fine way to start the week.
Awake before 6 for no particular reason. I wish I were a morning person on a more consistent basis.
@tiffing Yeah, I like Eliot's, but they always seem to have every other book an author's written except the one you want to buy.
@economicwoman True, it hangs on. I don't often require semi-pornographic coffee table books, though. Do they sell anything else?
Wish there was still an independent bookstore in my neighbourhood. Indigo/Chapters: thumbs down.
@AndrewWahl just CBC tech-ish podcasts: @SparkCBC and Search Engine.
Is it true that the super-famous board game Balderdash is out of print? Crazy.
@pomeranian99 We moved all @thismagazine copy -editing and fact-checking onto gDocs in October and I can't imagine going back.
Is the DRM dead in the iTunes Canada store?
@phillipadsmith Thanks for taking a look under the hood at @thismagazine, much appreciated.
@ivortossell — resist that urge.
@apgalbraith Did you receive, by any chance, this text message? http://bit.ly/x7ok Do you have the original text?
@mgriffithgreene Together at last...
@kimpittaway, @ivortossell, @lisamurphyTO — Behold the horror: http://bit.ly/mlm5
@ivortossell 106 years from now people will revel in our sub-prime mortgage and smiley download banner ads. Nostalgia is coming for us all.
Canada Post postal code lookup service: not working. Me: therefore also not working. Arg.
@ivortossell Depends on the ads. The online ad business today is like the display ad business of, like, 1902. Opulence takes time.
Fending off a hurricane of spam comments. This is not how I wanted to spend my Monday morning.
The 2009 starter pistol goes bang tomorrow morning, and here I am still lacing up my running shoes.
Suggest neurological study of people who work in magazines: wonky concept of time as all work-thoughts displaced 3 – 6 months ahead.
Catching up on stuff I missed from Pitchfork's best of 2008 list, and not feeling like I missed that much.
Just home from Department of Culture all-day strategy meeting. Fun projects coming up.
Air Farce cannot end soon enough. 25 years of boring nonsense.
@boyreporter All dressed up and too many places to go. Happy New Year...
Showered, shaved, and shoes shined.
@traceyyyz Did you notice @lcbo has misspelled "liquor" in its own bio? I say it's not the real LCBO.

Does anyone, anywhere, actually own a Microsoft Zune? Who are these people? http://bit.ly/AUCU
@TheGATE That blog was a search misfire while looking for something on YouTube. Happy accident.
Muppets. Guest starring on "Scrubs". Which I didn't know was still on the air. http://bit.ly/ZuPY
After tortuous installation, parents' wifi is working. Graham: 1, D-Link: 0
Family recalls WASPy food of childhood: Velveeta; sweet potato with pineapple and maraschino cherries; peanut butter & bacon sandwiches.
Various aunts, dogs, neighbours blustering in the door. Hunkering down by the fire with a whiskey.
Apparently my bus-twittering gave the impression of panic. Not at all: driver, passengers all united in goodwill and stiff upper-lipness.
Thus ends the sad tale of bus 7705, abandoned in the Mohawk Casino parking lot.
Greyhound breakdown! This puppy has run her last race.
Appear to be on Greyhound of the Damned.

@ryanmerkley "Foodland Ontario" stickers? http://bit.ly/4zzM
Beautiful evening. This is what Hollywood directors think snow looks like.
Looking at top-secret This Magazine redesign mockups.
@blogto Exactly.
I think today's rage-inducing TTC experience registered a 6 on the Micallef Scale.
@mgriffithgreene Did you attend the "Retrocity" concert tonight? I was invited to that but unable to come.

@tiffing @typeter In the pre-web-2.0 dictionary, both "tweet" and "twitter" are each noun and verb. We're in uncharted vocab territory.
@wingszetang Yes! I aim to be both the Strunk and the White of Generation Twitter.

Is there a lexical standard for the verb describing what you do when you post on Twitter?: "s/he twitters" or "s/he tweets"? Thoughts?
A laptop with no wi-fi available is a terribly sad way to live.
@typeter Sure, call @cathybutler too.
@typeter Isn't that tomorrow?
@ivortossell Ah. That bad, huh?
@ivortossell I guess they can't all be storybook endings.
@ivortossell I provide a nice little reader-interaction story, and you manage to find the dark fiasco lining in my silver cloud.
@ivortossell You're a mean one, Mr. Grinch.
Angry reader letter –> diplomatic response –> actual substantive dialogue –> happiness
Christmas came early when a Guardian Weekly subscription arrived in the mail yesterday. Wonder who I have to thank...

@typeter Congratulations on your, uh, lack of a diagnosis. But joy re: cuke sammies & beer.
Walking home with Garrison Keillor's "News from Lake Woebegone." Agreeably hokey.
I accumulated at least 30 castoff #hohoto raffle tickets, but not a winner in the bunch.
@kimpittaway I think all of these can be filed under "maddening mental meteorology metaphors."
@kimpittaway I think a "thought shower" is like a brainstorm only it's less impressive and evaporates in half an hour.
@shawnmicallef @ivortossell Proposal — Psychogeography: the Phallic/Yonic Architecture Edition
@shawnmicallef Sorry, should've warned you. Free wifi, but it's kind of the Coffee Shop of the Damned.
Google finally introduces magazine archives on Book Search: http://bit.ly/xcuX (of interest, @kattancock?)
@TheGATE Sorry, I call mega-lame on the new Star Trek, imax or not.
@shawnmicallef Croissant Tree at Isabella and Church.
On my way to the Dept. of Culture party at the Rivoli.
Going through internship applications. Good batch, looks like.
Agenda: Brunch. Rally. Cleaning. Party.
ZOMG January issue is gone to press.
There is nothing more wonderfully humbling than a good copy editor.

@boyreporter Also true. Epic fail all around.
I have one word for you. http://bit.ly/q707
Current parliamentary mess aside, is this the last straw for the Monarchy/Office of the GG as head of state?
Did we seriously go from "budget update" to "full-scale constitutional crisis" in less than a week?
Sweet merciful crap, this is going to be a long two months.
@ivortossell Flip4Mac? What is this, the 19th century? Streaming Flash video, people. C'mon.
CPAC streaming in Windows Media = Boo.
Totally digging Write Or Die: http://bit.ly/aAsp
@clevack Where's that from?
@ivortossell What user base?
@kattancock I've never had a Mac that I didn't name. Mine are Lucy and Hernando (desktop & notebook, respectively). Go for it.
@ivortossell Proofs will be ready any minute.
@kimpittaway Amen, sister. Hardly confined to media sector, though. Financial collapse covers a multitude of sins.
So close to finishing fact-checking.
@ivortossell This sounds like a job for The Surly Barista.
A nice letter from a reader is absolutely the best way to start the day.
"Sneak peak" spotted on motherjones.com. Arg.
@phillipadsmith I'm in the market for a laptop — is Pro a disappointment? Should I save the money and just get a macbook?
@ivortossell It all depends on the name. There must be a fake band name on the list that could be repurposed for a blog.
